Scalia advocates a “dead” U.S. Constitution

During a recent interview on National Public Radio, Justice Antonin Scalia explained his view that the U.S. Constitution is “dead” and should be treated as if it were. It should be viewed as it was by our forefathers in 1791. Any attempt to interpret for today opens the door for individual justices to insert their own ideas.

Correcting our error

In the Milwaukee Bar Association Judicial Poll chart listed on our March 24 Around the State page, the Qualified and Not Qualified headings accidentally appeared in the wrong order. That error reversed the results for candidates in the state Supreme Court race and the Milwaukee County Circuit Court – Branch 40 race.

Butler wins in court of Milwaukee lawyers

It should come as no surprise that Justice Louis Butler, a former Milwaukee judge, would fare better than his Burnett County challenger, Michael Gableman, when reviewed by Milwaukee lawyers.

It's a matter of justice for Guantanamo detainees

Once again, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case about the rights of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Following oral arguments yesterday, the nine justices are considering whether detainees have a right to question their confinement using a writ of habeas corpus.

Wisconsin Law Journal Managing Editor Tony Anderson has 19 years of journalism experience. Tony started as a reporter and weekend news anchor for WIBA radio in Madison where he regularly covered the Dane County Board and other government meetings. Tony originally came to The Daily Reporter in 1996 and he began working with the Wisconsin Law Journal the following year.
