Dig up defunct government websites at CyberCemetery
Looking for documents from a defunct government agency? You might dig it up at the CyberCemetery. This website is a collaboration of the University of North Texas and the GPO. The site is described as “an archive of government websites that have ceased operation (usually websites of defunct government agencies and commissions that have issued a final report).” For example, this is the place to find documents from the Child Online Protection Act Commission, which released its final report in 2000.
Browse the collection by agency, branch of government, or date of expiration (going back to 1995). The researcher can also use keyword searching. Just as a side note: I was able to retrieve many of the documents using a general search engine, but this site has the information in a central location and it wasn’t necessary to weed through results.
