Site offers timely updates of Code of Federal Regulations

I was surprised to find out that many people are not aware of the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (E-CFR). Most researchers use the general Government Printing Office’s GPO Access page to access regulations online. This is the perfect location for locating the official and historical versions of the Code of Federal Regulations. Historical versions of some titles go back to 1996. Most go back to 1997 or 1998. However, the E-CFR, while not the official version, is more up-to-date than the general version. The website defines the page as “a current, daily updated version of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The E-CFR is an unofficial editorial compilation of CFR material and Federal Register amendments.” [emphasis added]. So, if you are interested in viewing a CFR section that has incorporated very recent Federal Register information, check out the E-CFR.
